Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less.
This morning I posted a video on our green blog, Lite Green Living, entitled “3 Ways To Lower Gas Prices” by AmericanSolutions.com
What the whole thing is about, is encouraging the American people to sign a petition to get our government to lift restrictions and allow us to drill on American soil.
About a week or so ago I was thinking the very same thing.. drill local.. because I got pretty bent knowing that here in California we’re paying at least 40 cents more than the national average per gallon of gas. I’m pay $4.47.
I sat and pondered this for while and the more I thought about.. I think it is the right course of action and here’s why..
It would create a lot of jobs and that is something we need in the US right now. The US unemployment rate was at 5.5% a few weeks ago (during The Great Depression it hit 25%). If I were unemployed and needed to feed my family I would switch careers and go work in the oil industry… it maybe dangerous but it sure does pay good. It could also create a lot environmental jobs because impact studies will be needed and it takes a lot of research, lab work and analysis to create reports for projects of this magnitude.
Cheaper gas is something we need now because of inflation and unemployment, Americans can’t cope with these prices for very long. And we also have to realistic.. it seems nearly impossible and would take a very long time to get every American into a sustainable vehicle or even just a hybrid, so our demand for oil is not going away.. it just might gradually decrease.
On the other side we have to consider the environmental impacts of drilling and there are impacts. Do these impacts outweigh our supply and demand? No drilling site will go without major environmental studies and the people need to make sure the politicians behind such an initiative are making sure whatever drilling happens is done with the utmost environmental concern.
Drill Local.. Shop Local! Would you sign the petition… I did.
