So I hear about this great contest to win a kick ass prize… a new iPad. So I jump through there hoops to enter the contest and now they want me to take it viral and tell my friends!
Why the HELL would I do something like that? I want to win the iPad.. if I tell my friends then I decrease my chances.. DUH!
Yes sometimes I am a selfish bastard
But the real truth is that I’m not the only cynical person out there who thinks like this. Viral contests never made much sense to me.
Have a great day

My mom is shopping for airline tickets so I’m putting up some ads for her to use and to give me a little kickback.
My mom took the Amtrak from Chicago to Eugene last week and is staying through the end of the month. When she leaves she’s heading to see my sister in Arkansas but unfortunately the train doesn’t take her where she needs to go.
We looked on Orbitz this morning a little bit and found something funny. We searched a ticket from PDX to XNA.. the itinerary came back with a 2 stop flight… Portland to Eugene to Denver to Fayetteville = 201 with taxes & fees. Now here’s the funny part.. we’re in Eugene so we figure hey save the drive and the emissions and all that.. If she were to book out of Eugene the ticket is like $30 more. I don’t get it.
Anyway, if you’re traveling soon maybe there’s a deal here for you too.

Being from the left coast we don’t have a popular restaurant called Chick Fil A. We had never even heard of Chick Fil A until we went to Arkansas to visit my sister. The have a Chick Fil A just down the street from them and my niece and nephew love that place. I think we ate 3 times over the course of 7 day visit.
Then we ran into Chick Fil A again a year later in Florida when we went to go visit my dad and sister.
Mind you they do a dam good job cooking chicken. And unlike most places.. thats all they serve is chicken. You can’t find a hampburger there. Chick Fil A is a family owned restaurant chain from what I understand… and whats great about that is they care about the menu. You can find organic milk singles or fruit cups as sides instead of soda and french fries. But don’t worry.. they do have fries if you want them.
So if you’ve ever been to Chick Fil A.. then this following youtube video should make laugh… enjoy.

Oh how true this statement is!

I was fine tuning a stylesheet this morning and adjusting things for cross browser compatibility.. I opened Internet Explorer and found this article on the front page of AOL. I thought it was cool so I figured I’d share.
Earliest Human Footprints Discovered
By Jeremy Hsu, LiveScience
(Feb. 26) – Early humans had feet like ours and left lasting impressions in the form of 1.5 million-year-old footprints, some of which were made by feet that could wear a size 9 men’s shoe.
The findings at a Northern Kenya site represent the oldest evidence of modern-human foot anatomy. They also help tell an ancestral story of humans who had fully transitioned from tree-dwellers to land walkers.
“In a sense, it’s like putting flesh on the bones,” said John Harris, an anthropologist with the Koobi Fora Field School of Rutgers University. “The prints are so well preserved .”

I’ve never been a huge fan of SNL but I their skits have always made me laugh. Last night my little Baby Annie didn’t want to go to sleep so I stayed up and was able to catch SNL with Baldwin & the Jonas Brothers.
I don’t always catch SNL.. mostly I catch the highlights on the web, but ever now again – like last night – I catch an episode. I gotta say… SNL just isn’t that funny now that George W. Bush is out of the office. I mean for the last 8 years this man has been the butt of many of their most hilarious skits, but now the George is out of the public eye… no more George W jokes. Letterman even commented several weeks back about having to write his own comedy because they wouldn’t have George anymore.
And the Jonas Brothers, all I ever hear now. I don’t listen to the radio so I’ve never heard any of their music until last night on SNL… and I wasn’t impressed. This morning as I got online I decided to go their website for some samples of their music, thinking maybe they just aren’t a great stage show but maybe their studio stuff is better. Again I wasn’t impressed. Honestly I don’t like their music at all… LOL. Shaking my head in dismay as why they are the talk of the entertainment industry.
One of the opening skits with Baldwin and his colleague from 30 Rock was pretty darn funny… glad to see Baldwin still doing well. And I even checked out HULU because of his commercial. More on HULU at a later date.

My friend Malina emailed me this evening with a petition signing request for the immediate release of a California college student who was arrested in Iran. Malina’s original message follows…
I try to keep these to a minimum, but since I just returned from a trip to Iran unmarred by any harrassement, problems, bad-vibes or run-ins with the Islamic Republic, this issue hits particularly close to home. Given my overwhelmingly postive experience an arrest like this makes me even sadder than it normally would. If you have a second check out this petition. I don’t know very much about this woman but my advisor is on an important academic freedom commitee and they are supporting this petition drive so I know it’s legit and important.
